You can create backups on AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud platforms.
You can have immutability of backups on AWS environments to avoid accidental modifications or deletion. See Immutability of Backups (AWS).
To create a backup:
- In the VantageCloud Lake console, select your environment.
- Select Data Protection tab.
- Select Backup plans tab and select +.
- Enter the name and description.
- In Retention policy, enter the number of restore points you want to maintain. Once the specified number of restore points is exhausted, the earlier restore point is deleted. For instance, if you specify three restore points to maintain, upon creating the fourth restore point, the first retention plan is removed from the database and thus still maintaining the latest three restore points.Retaining more backups results in additional usage charges.
- In the Objects tab, select objects to include or exclude, such as databases and tables. Use filters, such as, Object name, Storage tier, and Object type to find and select specific tables, and databases. If prompted, enter the username and password to establish database connection.
- Select Schedule tab to set the backup schedule. The parameters to set are:
Parameter Value to set Daily Specific time of the day. Weekly A combination of day of the week and time. Monthly A combination of specific day of the month, such as, last Sunday, first Friday, and so on, or date and time. Yearly A combination of specific month, day or date, and time. - Select Save.
- Once the backup plan is created, select , then Start to execute the backup plan.Teradata recommends to maintain a gap of at least one minute while creating or executing two consecutive backup jobs to avoid failures. Also, you can't backup data while VantageCloud Lake upgrades are in progress.
- View the site level standard backup storage metrics on the Consumption page.
