Universal builds for IntelliFlex Release 2.0 allow for Hybrid SSD configurations, RI-only, and WI-only configurations.

Expansions using Intel R1208WF nodes in addition to Dell R630 nodes require different configurations than systems using only Dell R630 nodes.

Systems can contain single or multiple cliques. Each cabinet may include any of the following, depending on the customer's system configuration and cabinet power types:
  • Analytics Database nodes:
    • Up to seven Analytics Database nodes for Power A
    • Up to 15 Analytics Database nodes for Power BCD
  • Up to seven SSD arrays for Power A; up to 12 SSD arrays for Power BCD
  • PE nodes:
    • Up to 10 PE nodes for Power A, when adding Intel nodes
    • Up to 17 PE nodes for Power BCD, when adding Intel nodes
  • VMSs
    • VMS 3.0 (R1208WF): Both of type VMS (no specific designation). Two are required.
    • VMS 2.0 (R1208WT): System VMS and Cabinet VMS. A System VMS is required. A Cabinet VMS is added for redundancy.
  • One rackmount KMM
  • Two 36-port EDR first-tier InfiniBand switches (optional in expansion cabinets)
  • Two 36-port EDR second-tier InfiniBand switches (optional in expansion cabinets)
  • Up to 12 TMS, channel server, SWS, or SAS worker nodes

For more information on the customer's system configuration, contact the Teradata account team.

Build Rules

Components must be installed in a certain order, with maximum numbers of each limited by the power type used in the system.

  1. Install SSD arrays from the bottom of the cabinet up, in the following order:
Chassis in U spaces 2-7 All Power Types
Chassis in U spaces 8-9 Power Types BCD
Chassis in U spaces 35-42 All Power Types
Chassis in U spaces 10-13 Power Types BCD
Chassis in U spaces 31-34 Power Types BCD

If you are updating an existing system, you may need to move a node or TMS to place the new storage array in the correct position.

  2. Install Analytics Database nodes from the bottom of the cabinet up, after installing the storage arrays, in the following order:
Chassis in U spaces 14-17 All Power Types
Chassis in U spaces 18-19 Power Types BCD
Chassis in U spaces 25-27 All Power Types
Chassis in U spaces 28-30 Power Types BCD
Chassis in U space 10 Power Types BCD
Chassis in U space 12 Power Types BCD
Chassis in U space 31 Power Types BCD

If you are updating an existing installation, you may need to move a PE node or TMS to place the new Analytics Database node in the correct position.

  3. Install PE nodes from the bottom of the cabinet up, after installing the storage arrays and Analytics Database nodes, in the following order:
Chassis in U space 2 All Power Types
Chassis in U space 10 Power Types BCD
Chassis in U space 12 Power Types BCD
Chassis in U spaces 14-17 All Power Types
Chassis in U spaces 18-19 Power Types BCD
Chassis in U spaces 25-27 All Power Types
Chassis in U spaces 28-31 Power Types BCD
Chassis in U space 35 All Power Types
Chassis in U space 37 Power Type A

If you are updating an existing installation, you may need to move a TMS to place the new PE node in the correct position.

  4. Install TMSs, SWS, SAS worker nodes, or channel servers from the bottom of the cabinet up, after installing the storage arrays and all nodes, in the following order:
    1. Consolidated TMS

Install in ascending order, by feature number

    2. Standard TMS

Install in ascending order, by feature number

    3. SWS
    4. SAS worker node
    5. Channel server
Chassis in U spaces 2-3 All Power Types
      Chassis in U space 10-13

The bottom of the chassis must be in the even U position

      Power Types BCD
      Chassis in U space 14-17

The bottom of the chassis must be in the even U position

      All Power Types
Chassis in U space 18-19 Power Types BCD
      Chassis in U space 25-28

The bottom of the chassis must be in the odd U position

      All Power Types
      Chassis in U space 29-34

The bottom of the chassis must be in the odd U position

      Power Types BCD
Chassis in U space 35-36 All Power Types
Chassis in U space 37-38 Power Type A

If you are updating an existing installation, reinstall any TMSs that were removed so that all components are located in the correct positions.

  5. Install all remaining components from the bottom of the cabinet up, for all power types, in the following order:
Primary Server Management Switch, 48 Port 1 GbE U space 1, fixed
    VMS 3.0 (R1208WF), or VMS 2.0 System VMS (R1208WT) U space 20, if present
