Enforcement of CPU and I/O resource hard limits is now under the control of Vantage workload management, rather than being managed by the Linux operating system.
Benefits
- Better oversight over task suspension (hold-back) when a hard limits are met.
- More precise task control for workloads using hard limits. Such tasks will no longer be universally suspended to enforce a limit. Instead, each task is considered independently.
- Reduces restrictions on the use of hard limits for workload management.
Considerations
Most workload tasks under hard-limit control are still suspended to enforce hard limits, but tasks holding critical shared resources, such as internal locks, are now allowed to continue to run until they release the resource.
