Vantage supports reading and writing data in external, cloud-based storage such as Amazon S3, Azure Blob storage (including Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2 in Blob Interop Mode), and Google Cloud Storage.

There are two ways to read and work with data in external storage:
  • You can create a foreign table. A foreign table acts as a registry that maps to an external object storage location. Use a foreign table to query CSV, JSON, and Parquet data stored in an external object store.
  • You can use READ_NOS to perform ad-hoc queries directly from an external object store. READ_NOS reads data in JSON or CSV formats. READ_NOS also allows you to list all the objects and path structure of an object store and read the schema of Parquet objects.

To write data from Vantage tables to external storage, use WRITE_NOS.
