General

  • When adding a system in monitored systems, provide hostname instead of IP address.
  • Make sure, all monitored systems have entries in /etc/hosts.
  • Avoid adding more than one system with the same TDPID.
  • Before starting the maintenance window on a monitored system, disable the system from monitored systems. Re-enable it once the maintenance is complete. If there are any new database changes, those are picked immediately.

Collector Configuration

  • If you are monitoring an SQLE system, do not use dbc user in Monitored System configuration. Create a separate user (For example: viewpoint), and give sufficient permission and spool space to use in configuration.
  • For every system under Monitored Systems, set proper retention policy to avoid large data. Also select both time based and space based retention, so that if the system meets either of the criteria, a clean-up occurs. For example:
    • Delete Data After 1 week
    • Delete Data Over 10 GB

Find the retention policy configuration at Monitored Systems > Select System > Data Collectors > Delete Data section.
