The operational state of a component is represented by text or icons in the Summary Alert Viewer. The operational state of a component does not reflect the operational state of the entire system.

Summary alert icons change as the alert status changes. Following are examples:
Example Description

Active (color)

Cleared (with checkmark)

Expired (grey)
Text Description Status Icons Primary Operational State Description
Informational

No action required. Provides information about approaching potential issues.
Warning

Condition should be monitored. The component or subsystem is reporting a condition that does not threaten system operation; however, it could worsen over time.
Degraded

Action should be taken. The component or subsystem is reporting a condition of reduced performance.
Critical

Immediate action should be taken. The component or subsystem cannot continue to operate in this state.
Critical conditions are often handled internally by components or subsystems, causing them to shut down.
Fatal

Immediate action must be taken to return the system to its normal operating state. The component or subsystem has failed.
