Teradata requires consistent high-bandwidth and low-response times for the system storage volumes. Any changes to available bandwidth, including short-duration impacts, directly impact the system performance.

Storage latency and worst-case response times are important attributes for Teradata. The worst-case response time is a major concern for storage because of background tasks such as SSD garbage collection, data integrity patrols, failure recovery rebuilds, and writeback cache drain. Each of these tasks can delay I/O completion times. If the storage layer experiences high-response times even for a limited subset of its I/Os, the system performance is affected.

Teradata operation may be suspended if any storage LUN becomes unavailable. If the LUN remains unavailable for 5 minutes, the system may return to the fallback mode to maintain system availability.

You can take other recovery actions based on the severity of the storage issue and your specific business-continuity objectives. The customer must discuss the specific RPO/RTO expectations and how the specific support policy/SLAs can enable such expectations with Teradata and the infrastructure partners.
