ESXi hosts in each Teradata clique are reserved exclusively for Database Engine 20 VMs. Each ESXi host has two Database Engine 20 VMs that are provisioned with the maximum compute, memory, and I/O resource available to that host. See Analytics Database VM Configuration.
- Hardware (Node)
- The Database Engine 20 host BIOS is configured as follows:
- Enable HyperThreading.
- Set Power Policy to High Performance.
- Storage
- Each host runs the hypervisor and the VantageCore VMware instance from a local unshared datastore enabled by H755 PERC and its associated internal SSDs. This datastore must be used only by ESXi and the VantageCore VMware OS.
- Networking
- There are eight 25GbE NIC ports on each host (vmnic0 – 7) that are allocated across the following virtual distributed switches.
- The 25 GbE BYNET dvSwitch is aligned to the BYNET physical switches
- BYNET-1 PortGrp/VLAN (MTU: 9000)
- BYNET-2 PortGrp/VLAN (MTU: 9000)
BYNET for this design leverages RoCEv2 (through SR-IOV configured BYNET NICs) to reduce BYNET latency. - The 25GbE iSCSI dvSwitch is aligned to the Storage physical switches
- iSCSI-1 PortGrp/VLAN (MTU: 9000)
- iSCSI-2 PortGrp/VLAN (MTU: 9000)
- The 25GbE CMIC dvSwitch is aligned to the CLAN physical switches
- CMIC-1 PortGrp/VLAN (MTU: 1500
- CMIC-2 PortGrp/VLAN (MTU: 1500)
- The 25GbE DSU dvSwitch is aligned to the CLAN physical switches
- DSU-1 PortGrp/VLAN (MTU: 9000)
- DSU-2 PortGrp/VLAN (MTU: 9000)
- The 25GbE CLAN dvSwitch is algined to the CLAN physical switches
- CLAN PortGrp/VLAN (MTU: based on customer requirements)
- The 25 GbE BYNET dvSwitch is aligned to the BYNET physical switches
There are four physical iSCSI network ports on each TPA-ESXi host and two storage distributed switches with two uplinks each. Each uplink is on a unique physical port. Each physical port is from a separate physical card with two uplinks connected to the same storage switch. There are two port groups in each distributed switch with a unique active path and a unique standby path. This provides a functional path in the event of a failed network card. Each TPA VM has two port groups from a different distributed switch.
