For Database Engine 20 configuration requirements, the following high-level design constraints are applied to the evaluated components:
  • Compute nodes for Database Engine 20 configuration
    • Intel Xeon-based micro-architecture
    • 1U node
    • Solutions with at least three PCIe4 I/O slots
  • Storage for Database Engine 20 configuration
    • Converged architecture (external storage)
    • Supports Block I/O
    • Supports shared storage or access model
    • Compatible with Teradata OS (SLES) and SW
    • At least five 9s of availability (per array or fault-domain)
  • Networking for Database Engine 20 configuration
    • Sufficient port count for both intra-clique and inter-clique connectivity
    • Shared redundant fabric for storage and BYNET message passing layer
    • Sufficient bandwidth to extract at least 90% of storage performance or capability
    • Sufficient bandwidth for node-to-node (and clique-to-clique) BYNET I/O

As a Private Cloud solution, the VantageCore VMware powered by Dell Technologies for Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) solution was designed with these considerations in mind.
