Multiple cliques can be allocated within a single Teradata system to scale compute, I/O, and capacity to achieve system-level design targets. The following table provides examples of such scaling using the 4+1 and 8+1 clique building blocks:

Teradata can provide linear performance and capacity by scaling systems out in size. The total system size is defined by the lesser of the following methods:

Host Connectivity
Up to 13 cliques can be supported. See Networking for Analytics Database Configuration.
Single-System Availability
Single-system availability (or uptime) is defined by total system size. Make sure the availability profile of a candidate system is acceptable by using an appropriate business continuity solution. See System Availability and Durability.
