Teradata system performance and capacity scale linearly when additional compute, I/O, and capacity resources are added to the system.

Teradata system is sized and expanded using Teradata cliques. See Clique and System Architecture for Database Configuration.

You can achieve the system-level design targets by including enough cliques to cover the most demanding and constraining resource element of the target system.

The following table summarizes the key compute, I/O, and capacity attributes of a Teradata clique:
Clique Configuration Profile Cores / Clique (for Database Engine 20) Memory / Clique (for Database Engine 20) 50% RR / RW, 256KB I/O per Clique Compressed CDS per Clique
4+1, 3 arrays Balanced 176 2,800 GiB ~12 GB/s 85 TB
8+1, 6 arrays Balanced 352 2,800 GiB ~12 GB/s 170 TB
