This content outlines the hardware configuration for the Teradata VantageCore powered by Dell Technologies for Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW). Teradata has conducted rigorous testing and validation of this specific configuration to confirm its performance expectations.

Introduction

Database Engine 20 is a core capability of Teradata Vantage. Database Engine 20 refers to the ability to run advanced analytic functions beyond that of standard SQL.

Teradata VantageCore VMware is a software solution deployed in the VMware vSphere environment. VantageCore VMware is offered on private and partner cloud deployment models, and it is also a core component of the Dell solutions. Teradata provides only the Vantage software stack that exists within a vSphere virtual environment but does not maintain the physical infrastructure.

To enable this, Teradata uses a Dell infrastructure that consists of dedicated compute (ESXi hosts for Teradata Database Engine 20) and external storage resources that are accessed by the Database Engine 20 (ESXi) nodes through a redundant, fault-tolerant fabric.

For this implementation, the redundant fabric provides connectivity from the host-to-storage and host-to-host connectivity for the BYNET message passing service. The storage resources in this model are provided in the form of Dell PowerVault dual-controller storage arrays.
