The Dell ECS Connection Manager (Kemp) H4 100 NG is the selected load balancing appliance used in conjunction with the ECS EX5000D solution. This H4 100 NG is ECS optimized and includes features such as Quality of Service controls and purpose-built ECS S3 traffic steering.
A minimum of two H4 100 NG appliances are required per ECS cluster (VDC) for fault tolerance. Additional H4 100 NG appliances can be added during cluster expansions so that performance scales in tandem with the added capacity. If a single H4 100 NG fails, the remaining H4 100 NG appliances continue to provide load balancing services and sustained connectivity from clients to ECS.
- (4) 100GbE Ports (QSFP28)
- (4) 25GbE Ports (SFP28)
- (8) 10GbE Ports (SFP+)
The H4 100 NG is capable of handling up to 90Gbps of L7 application throughput – enough to reach (near) peak performance from (3) ECS EX5000D chassis (or 6 XE7420 nodes). When configured in Active/Active mode, a pair of H4 100 NG appliances has enough throughput (180Gbps) to accommodate a full ECS rack with (6) ECS EX5000D chassis.
In terms of management, by default the Dell ECS Connection Manager can be managed in-band via the same physical paths leverage for object storage data.
