The EX5000D chassis includes two half-width Dell ECS XE7420 nodes and either 50 or 100 16TB hard drives, all within a 5U form factor. In total, this chassis configuration delivers up to 1,053TB of Usable capacity.
Usable capacity is the aggregate capacity available for client/application use after factoring in the overhead of erasure-coding resiliency operations (used to protect data from drive and node failure).
Multiple chassis work together to form an ECS cluster, or Virtual Data Center (VDC). Further details on the cluster configuration limits are described in ECS EX5000D Cluster Configurations.
Each of the two XE7420 nodes within the EX5000D contains:
- Dual Cascade Lake CPUs, 192 GB memory
- 1x SSD for ECS OS and 1x SSD for Read Cache
- 25Gbps I/O Adapters for front-end and back-end network connectivity
Each XE7420 node is in the lower 1U of the rear of the chassis and is attached to either 25 or 50 HDDs located inside the chassis (depending on the ordered configuration). Note that both nodes are required to have the same quantity of HDDs.
Network connectivity to the EX5000D chassis is accomplished using the port assignments illustrated in the following image.
Further details on the hardware specifications for the ECS EX5000D chassis can be found in the ECS EX Series Hardware Guide on the Dell ECS InfoHub.
