Dell ECS Object Storage is preconfigured to report system alerts for select conditions, such as hardware faults. Each alert has an associated severity, defined as follows:
  • Critical: Immediate attention required
  • Error: Conditions associated with a physical failure or software failure
  • Warning: Sub-optimal conditions
  • Info: Routine status messages

A complete list of all system alerts along with their severity and meaning can be found within the “Alert Messages” section of the ECS Monitoring Guide, available on the Dell ECS InfoHub.

The customer can configure, if desired, additional user-defined alerts based on metrics thresholds within the ECS Portal. The process for configuration of these alert policies is described within the “New Alert Policy” section of the ECS Monitoring Guide, available on the Dell ECS InfoHub.

Support Engagement for ECS Node and Switch Issues

To ensure prompt remediation of any critical issues that arise due to component failures, Teradata requires that ECS nodes and switches be configured for phone home/alert reporting within Dell Secure Connect Gateway (SCG). SCG can be deployed on a customer-provided virtual host (such as ESXi, Kubernetes, etc.) or can be deployed as an application within a Linux or Windows host. SCG can be configured by Teradata and Dell during deployment to ensure a support case is opened for ECS nodes and switches when a qualifying alert is detected.

Support Engagement for ECS Connection Manager

The ECS Connection Manager is not monitored by Teradata or Dell, but can be configured to send e-mail notifications to an e-mail address of the customer's choosing when fault conditions occur on the ECM. Customers are encouraged to contact Teradata GSO when such alerts are received to initiate a service/support case with Teradata.
