Use of HTTPS/SSL encrypted traffic to ECS is strongly recommended. The Dell ECS Object Storage solution can be configured to terminate HTTPS at the Dell ECS Connection Managers (load balancers) or terminated at the Dell ECS nodes themselves (by configuring the ECMs to ‘pass through’ the encrypted traffic to the ECS nodes). While Teradata recommends terminating HTTPS/SSL at the ECS nodes themselves for improved protection of traffic from client to object-store, note that this carries an average throughput impact of ~7% on READ workloads.
