Azure replicates stored data for durability and high availability. When you deploy a VM using premium storage, data is automatically replicated locally three times for redundancy. See Azure Documentation Center.
Beyond what is replicated locally, you should still back up your data to data centers in other regions for disaster recovery and other scenarios.
