Universal cabinet builds for balanced or I/O rich hybrid configurations can include single or multiple cliques. Each cabinet may include any of the following, depending on the customer's system configuration and cabinet power types:
  • Up to eight processing nodes
  • Up to two HDD arrays
  • Up to two WI SSD arrays
  • Up to 21 PE nodes
  • One system VMS
  • One cabinet VMS
  • One rackmount KMM
  • Two 36-port EDR InfiniBand switches
  • Up to 17 TMS, channel server, or SAS worker nodes

Build Rules

Components must be installed in a certain order, with maximum numbers of each limited by the power type used in the system. If you are updating an existing system, you may need to move a node or TMS to place the new disk array in the correct position.

  1. Install HDD arrays from the bottom of the cabinet up, in the following order:
    Chassis in U spaces 2-13, if the first HDD array

    Install the chassis with the controller first, followed by chassis with ESMs

    All Power Types
    Chassis in U spaces 29-40, if the second HDD array

    Install the chassis with the controller first, followed by chassis with ESMs

    All Power Types
  2. Install SSD arrays from the bottom of the cabinet up, in the following order:
    Chassis in U spaces 14-15, if the first SSD array All Power Types
    Chassis in U spaces 41-42, if the second SSD array All Power Types
  3. Install processing nodes from the bottom of the cabinet up, after installing the disk arrays, in the following order:
    Chassis in U spaces 16-19 All Power Types
    Chassis in U spaces 25-27 All Power Types
    Chassis in U space 28 Power Types BCD
  4. Install PE nodes from the bottom of the cabinet up, after installing the disk arrays and processing nodes, in the following order:
    Chassis in U space 2 All Power Types
    Chassis in U space 4 All Power Types
    Chassis in U space 6 All Power Types
    Chassis in U space 8 Power Types BCD
    Chassis in U space 10 Power Types BCD
    Chassis in U space 12 Power Types BCD
    Chassis in U space 14 Power Types BCD
    Chassis in U spaces 16-19 All Power Types
    Chassis in U spaces 25-27 All Power Types
    Chassis in U space 28 Power Types BCD
    Chassis in U space 29 All Power Types
    Chassis in U space 31 All Power Types

  5. Install TMSs, SWS, SAS worker nodes, or channel servers from the bottom of the cabinet up, in ascending order, after installing the disk arrays and all nodes, in the following order:
    1. Consolidated TMS
    2. Standard TMS
    3. SWS
    4. SAS worker node
    5. Channel server

  6. Install all remaining components from the bottom of the cabinet up, for all power types, in the following order:
    Primary Server Management Switch, 48 Port 1 GbE U space 1, fixed
    System VMS (optional) U space 20, if present
    Rackmount KMM (optional) U space 21, if present
    InfiniBand Switch, 36-port EDR (optional) U spaces 22 and 24, if present
    Cabinet VMS (optional) U space 23, if present
    Secondary Server Management Switch, 48 Port 1 GbE Attic space, fixed

IntelliFlex 1.x Universal Builds, Hybrid Configurations

Placement of chassis MUST follow the install build rules without exception to adhere to power constraints for the respective power types.
