Cabinet builds for 9400 cabinet configurations use build rules to define a valid system configuration. Cabinets can contain single or multiple cliques or systems.

Build Rules

Install components in sequential order per the rules below, with maximum numbers of each limited by the power type used in the cabinet.

The maximum number of switches (not including server management switches) is four, except in the BYNET cabinet configuration, which can have up to eight second-tier BYNET switches in addition to two first-tier BYNET switches.

Two Dell X1026 or Dell X1052 1 Gb Ethernet switches are installed per cabinet, in the attic and U-space 1, for Server Management in all 9400 cabinet builds.

General Purpose Cabinets

Chassis Procedure
For the following:
  • KMM
  • VMS
  • BYNET switches
  • Lenovo switch
  • 680 System (SMP)
  • 2+0 clique (2800 or 2850)
  • 4+0 clique (2800 or 2850)
See cabinet configurations for installation location.

4+0 or 2+0 cliques must be installed in the lower-half cabinet at factory. The 4+0 or 2+0 cliques at top-half cabinet are Field Install Only.

For the following:
  • Ancillary servers
  • TMS
  • 1 GbE switch
  • 10 GbE switch

For TMS above i3, install top-down starting at U40

KMM/ VMS (If ordered and space allows)
  • System VMS: U18
  • Cabinet VMS: U16
  • KMM: U22, or any open space in U19-U23 locations
All other equipment Install bottom-up in the following order:
  1. Ancillary servers
  2. SMP (install storage below the server)
  3. Other TMS
  4. Switches (Dell X1026, Dell X1052, Lenovo, Brocade, and BYNET)

Server Fill

A 9400 cabinet can contain a variety of Advanced SQL Engine and non-Advanced SQL Engine chassis that do not fit in the processing/storage cabinet.

Chassis Location
Servers Install bottom-up, using the following order:
  1. Install Aster Appliance 5 nodes in ascending order (queen nodes first, then worker nodes).
  2. Install Hadoop clusters in ascending order:
    1. Appliance 5 master
    2. Appliance 6 master
    3. Data node
    4. Appliance 5 edge node
    5. Appliance 6 edge node

Clusters can be heterogeneous with a mix of Appliance 5 master and edge and Appliance 6 data nodes. Appliance 5 data nodes cannot reside in a cluster with Appliance 6 data nodes.

  3. Install Consolidated TMS by feature in ascending order.
  4. Install SAS worker node.
  5. Install channel server.
