After deploying a Teradata Viewpoint VM, you must connect to the VM from your browser, and log in to the Teradata Viewpoint portal to add the Vantage system as a monitored system using the Viewpoint Monitored Systems portlet before using the software.
You can use Teradata Viewpoint to connect to a Vantage system on Azure or an on-premises Vantage system.
Teradata Viewpoint on Azure offers a limited number of Vantage console utilities in the Remote Console portlet. These utilities are Abort Host, Check Table, Gateway Global, Lock Display, Query Configuration, Query Session, Show Locks, and Update Space.
The time zone for the Teradata Viewpoint VM defaults to the selected Azure region time zone.
- If you are using Teradata Viewpoint to connect to a Vantage system on Azure, start a VM in the system from the Azure portal.
- From the Azure portal, note the following of the Vantage and Viewpoint VMs:
- The private IP address.
- If applicable, either the public IP or public DNS.
- Log on to the VM using the authentication type you chose when deploying the Viewpoint VM.
- Obtain an admin password for the Viewpoint portal.
- Open an SSH client and connect to the Viewpoint VM:
# ssh azureuser@VM-public-IP-address
where:- azureuser is the user name specified when you deployed the VM.
- VM-public-IP-address is the public IP address of the Viewpoint VM.
- Switch to the root user environment.
# sudo su -
- Run the following command to generate the password for the admin user:
# /opt/teradata/viewpoint/bin/vp-password-generate
Note the resulting password, which you will use to log in to the Viewpoint portal.
- Open an SSH client and connect to the Viewpoint VM:
- From your browser, display the Viewpoint portal logon screen using either the DNS name or the IP address.

- Do the following from the Monitored Systems portlet:
- Add, configure, and enable the system.
- Add the TDPID of the database VM.This could be a private DNS or a public DNS depending on your setup.
- Configure the login credential to be used by system tasks.
- [Optional] Select a time zone for the system you are configuring.Changing this setting overrides the default time zone of the Viewpoint VM, which is the Azure region time zone where the VM was deployed.
- Enable data collectors.
- [Optional] Configure system health values.
