NetBackup uses an image-stacking methodology in order to save tapes. There is no explicit option to request a backup to be the first one on that tape, but it can be accomplished in this way. Tape pooling allows backups to be isolated into a unique tape pool by any number of criteria. By defining a transient tape pool that contains only new or recently-erased tapes, the duplication/vaulting copies will be the first image on those tapes.
