Access Controls

Access controls determine who can access the labs for security or other reasons and whether lab users can view lab group details and lab details. These controls are typically set when a lab group is created, however, the controls can be added or changed later.

The access controls are described below.
Once you save a group without any restrictions (public), you cannot make it private. You can switch among public group options at any time. Once you save a group as private, you can change the lab group to public.
Control Control Locations Control Description
Enable display of users and roles for the lab group and labs

Select to enable lab users to see the Users tab when viewing lab group details and lab details.
Public lab group, Anyone can be added to a lab

Allow any Teradata Database user or role to have default access or be added via a request.
Public lab group, Only selected users can be added to a lab
  • Step 5 Access Limits in the Add Lab Group wizard when you add a lab group

Restrict which Teradata Database users and roles can be added to labs in this group.
Public lab group, Selected users cannot be added to a lab

Specify which Teradata Database users and roles cannot be added to labs in this group, and optionally disable configuration of user access using roles.
Private lab group
  • Step 5 Access Limits in the Add Lab Group wizard when you add a lab group
  • Access Limits tab after the lab group has been created
Restrict which Teradata Database users and roles can be added to labs in this group. Labs in a private group are visible to selected users and roles.

Give lab access to selected Teradata Database users and roles in this lab group.

Approval Controls

Approval controls determine who approves requests or if requests are automatically approved. These controls are typically set when a lab group is created, however, the controls can be changed later. Set approval controls in Step 6 Approvers of the Add Lab Group wizard when a lab group is created or from the Approvers tab after a lab group is created.

When a lab group is created, you have the option to set request limits on automatic approvals for increase lab size and lab extension requests.

The approval controls are described below.

Control Control Description
Automatic Requests that are less than or equal to the size or duration are automatically approved.
Lab Owner Requests that are less than or equal to the size or duration, and greater than Automatic, are approved by either the lab owner or lab group owner.
Lab Group Owner Requests with a size or duration greater than the Automatic or Lab Owner thresholds are approved by the lab group owner.
The types of requests that a lab group owner can delegate to the lab owner to approve are:
  • Add or remove user
  • Add or remove owner
  • Delete lab
  • Decrease lab size
  • Drop object

The lab group owner can also delegate authority to the lab owner to approve requests to increase lab size to a specified size and extend a lab by a specified time frame or specify no expiration.
