The Appliance Backup Utility takes advantage of Teradata node parallelism to back up and restore Teradata Database, resulting in high performance. Appliance Backup Utility backup and restore throughput also scales with the size of the system.

To achieve maximum parallelism, connect each Teradata Database node to a backup target disk device. This allows the node to send all data on its primary disk to the device through the Gbit network connection on the node. If there is no direct connection from a node to the secondary storage device, an Appliance Backup Utility client cannot be configured for that node. The data local to that node is redirected through the Teradata BYNET to other nodes that are configured as Appliance Backup Utility clients. The backup and restore operation will complete, but the throughput will be severely degraded.

To achieve maximum network performance, ensure that the network connection is in a private LAN.
