The optional bring your own license (BYOL) purchase method allows you to use a license purchased directly from Teradata for the following products:
  • Teradata Vantage (Base, Advanced, and Enterprise license tiers only)
  • Teradata Vantage with IntelliSphere

To use BYOL, you must first deploy either the Teradata Vantage (BYOL) or Teradata Vantage with IntelliSphere (BYOL) solution template. After deploying a Teradata Vantage solution template, you can also deploy other Teradata software products separately.

TCores

The quantity of Teradata Database or IntelliSphere licenses is expressed in TCores. A TCore value is based on the vCPU count and throughput of each supported VM size. Scaling out (adding nodes) increases the required TCores.

The quantity of TCores affects the performance capabilities of the system. Fewer TCores means fewer virtual CPUs. More TCores allow you to deploy more virtual CPUs.

TCores can be activated, revoked, and redeployed on public cloud platforms that offer Teradata Vantage. TCores are portable between public cloud platforms. If you want your TCores to be portable between a public cloud platform and Teradata® IntelliCloud™ or an on-premises Teradata system, contact your Teradata Account Team.

License Entitlements

A license entitlement provides the right to use Teradata software and applies only to a specific Teradata Database license tier. You cannot take a BYOL entitlement from one tier and apply it to another tier.

To view and manage your Teradata license entitlements, go to https://slem.teradata.com/ecp. See the Teradata® Entitlement Management System (EMS) Customer User Guide. When deploying a Teradata ecosystem, each Teradata Database VM automatically requests a license activation from https://slem.teradata.com. If you need additional TCores to properly license the software, or to renew a license, contact your Teradata Account Team.

After a license expires, the database will periodically restart and eventually be disabled.

BYOL Requirements

BYOL for Teradata Database or IntelliSphere requires the following:
  • NSGs do not block outbound traffic to allow Internet access, and all Azure public endpoints are accessible by default.
  • Port 443 is open to https://slem.teradata.com so Teradata can verify the BYOL entitlement.
