  • Dul transfers dump information from a Teradata Database system to files on a host, or to removable storage media (DVD or tape). This unload operation is normally performed at the customer site, where the crash dump information is copied and shipped or transferred to the Teradata Support Center for analysis.
  • Dul is used by Teradata Support Center personnel to restore the dump information to a system for analysis.
  • Dul can be used to drop tables and obtain summary information about dumps without performing a load or unload operation.
  • Tables containing crash dump information are named according to the following syntax:

    Syntax element …

    Is the …

    year, month, and day.

    hour, minute, and second.

sequence number, which is increased by one for each dump saved.

Dul can unload dump tables having any name.

Dul automatically saves unloaded dumps to a file with a compressed, gzip file format, and adds a .gz extension to the dump file name. When loading dumps, dul looks for the specified file name including a .gz extension. If that file is not found, dul looks for the specified file name without a .gz extension.

Dultape provides the same functionality as dul; however, dultape offloads tables only to tape, rather than to disk. If a dump was unloaded with dultape 14.00.00, use dultape 13.10.00 or higher to load the dump.

The following table shows the tape drives that dultape supports.

    Dultape supports 4mmDAT tape drives.
