The Teradata Data Warehouse Appliance 2700 platform is made up of a combination of cabinet types, depending on the system configuration:
  • Base processing/storage cabinet

Each base processing/storage cabinet can contain one 4-node clique and one 2-node clique, one system virtualized management server (VMS), one keyboard/video/mouse (KVM) chassis, two server management switches, two BYNET switches, and power hardware. Base processing/storage cabinets may also contain channel servers, Extended Channel Solution (ECS) servers, SAS HPA worker nodes, Teradata Managed Servers (TMSs), or Teradata Managed Storage Servers (TMSSs).

A base processing/storage cabinet may optionally contain up to two test and development systems.

A base processing/storage cabinet may optionally contain a Scalar i80 BAR tape library, with or without a key manager server, or it may contain two Scalar i80 BAR tape libraries (without the key manager server).
Only one TMS BAR is permitted for the Scalar i80 BAR tape library configuration options.
A base processing/storage cabinet may optionally contain a Data Domain 4200 and up to three ES30 expansion shelves.
Only one TMS BAR is permitted for the Data Domain 4200 and ES30 options.
  • Expansion processing/storage cabinets

Each expansion processing/storage cabinet can contain two 4-node cliques, one cabinet VMS, two server management switches, and power hardware.

  • BYNET V5 cabinet (BYNET V5 interconnect)
Each BYNET V5 cabinet contains one or two InfiniBand switches, depending on the configuration. AC boxes in the cabinet provide power. Ethernet switches provide server management functionality.
    • A 108-port switch cabinet supports scalability from one to a maximum of 108 nodes. The cabinet contains two 108-port switches for redundancy. The cabinet can also contain an optional System VMS and KVM and up to two TMS servers.
    • A 162-port switch cabinet supports scalability from one to a maximum of 162 nodes. 162-port switch cabinets are paired for redundancy. Each cabinet can also contain an optional System VMS and KVM and up to three TMS servers.
    • A 324-port switch cabinet supports scalability from one to a maximum of 324 nodes. 324-port switch cabinets are paired for redundancy.
System configurations larger than 324 nodes (to a maximum of 1,024 nodes) are accommodated by special order.
  • Platform Framework Cabinet (PFC)

The PFC can contain any combination of channel servers, Extended Channel Solution (ECS) servers, SAS HPA worker nodes, Teradata Managed Servers (TMSs), Teradata Managed Storage Servers (TMSSs), and switches. The PFC can also be used to support system configurations that require a dedicated Service Workstation server. Other chassis in the cabinet provide power and server management functionality.
