Rules and Restrictions for Modifying Unpartitioned NoPI Tables

ALTER TABLE support for unpartitioned NoPI tables is identical to that for primary‑indexed tables with the following exceptions.

  • You cannot add a permanent journal to an unpartitioned NoPI table or to a column‑partitioned table definition.
  • You cannot add an identity column to an unpartitioned NoPI table definition.
  • You cannot partition the primary index of an unpartitioned NoPI table because it has no primary index to partition; however, NoPI tables can be partitioned.
  • You cannot alter a populated unpartitioned NoPI table to have a primary index, nor can you alter a populated primary‑indexed table to have no primary index.
