MDS provides an infrastructure for managing metadata in a Teradata data warehouse and for creating tools to interchange metadata with external operational systems, Extraction Transformation and Load (ETL) tools, Business Intelligence tools, Database Modeling tools, and other metadata sources.
A typical MDS configuration consists of:
- a Teradata Database system that contains an MDS repository
- one or more workstations that accesses the MDS repository with a web browser
- a workstation configured to administer the MDS repository
An MDS configuration may also include the following:
- a Java web application server like Apache Tomcat for Repository Explorer
- one or more workstations that will be used to develop or run MDS applications
- a system that you designate as the DIM Update server for the Automatic DIM Update feature
