SQL statements can be typed in or selected from one or more files. All text specified up to a semi-colon followed by a new line without any additional text is considered a single request. After the workload is defined, the execution plans are captured in the specified QCD.
You can set the sample size for collecting statistics on the tables prior to creating a workload. The statistics are collected into the QCD while capturing the execution plans for the workload statements. Go to Tools > Options > Preferences, and select the General tab.
1 Select Workload > Create > Using Statement Text.
The Define Workload using Statements dialog box opens.
2 Set the criteria for defining the workload by filling in the dialog box.

3 Click OK to start the workload definition process.
Note: If the QCD name you previously entered does not exist, a message appears asking if you want to create the QCD. Click Yes to create the QCD, or click No to select an existing QCD.
When the process is complete, the Workload Definition Summary window opens.

4 Check the workload, and click OK.
The workload is now in the workload cache and is ready to be analyzed. For more information, see “Chapter 6 Analysis” on page 81.
