Restrictions on Indexes

The following restrictions apply to indexes:

  • A maximum of one primary index or primary AMP index can be defined on a table.
  • You cannot define indexes for a global temporary trace table. See “CREATE GLOBAL TEMPORARY TRACE TABLE” in SQL Data Definition Language Detailed Topics.

  • No more than 64 columns can be specified for an index definition.
  • You cannot include columns having XML, BLOB, CLOB, Period, ARRAY, VARRAY, or JSON data types in any index definition.
  • You cannot compress the values of index columns.
  • You cannot compress the values of the partitioning columns defined in row partitioning.
