The Sequencer process can be in one of two states: Active or Standby. Only one Sequencer process can be in the Active state at a time. The Watchdog process maintains the process states.

A Split Brain occurs if both Sequencers become Active during a network failure.

If clients access both Unity servers concurrently (when both Sequencers are in the Active state), it may result in data inconsistencies between the Teradata Database systems. When the network connection between the Unity servers is restored, the Sequencers cannot reconcile the changes applied by both Sequencers and shut down the environment until the issue is resolved.
