Host variables can be used to pass column values to the server through the VALUES clause of the INSERT statement or the SET clause of the UPDATE statement.

PP2 does not perform any conversion before sending the data to the server, so the application must ensure that the host variable can pass the value to the server for conversion.

Assignment Rules

Teradata Vantage™ - SQL Stored Procedures and Embedded SQL , B035-1148 describes the rules for assigning database variables.

Graphic Literals for Multibyte Characters

The precompiler recognizes GRAPHIC-type literals in the COBOLII language in the following form:

Character Description
G The string is graphic data.
Single-byte character.
< Shift-Out meta character.
> Shift-In meta character.
### Quoted multibyte character string in a valid Kanji EBCDIC ideogram.

For more information on graphic literals (or constants), see Teradata Vantage™ - Data Types and Literals, B035-1143.
