Teradata SQL INSERT statements can be used to add rows of data to a table. They are similar to the write statements used to add records to a file.

Teradata SQL SELECT statements can be used to read rows of data from a table. They are similar to the read statements used to read records from a file.

Occasionally an application requires that a set of Teradata SQL statements must all complete or all be backed out.

Example

If money is being transferred from one account to another, the UPDATE statement that subtracts the amount from the first account and the UPDATE statement that adds the amount to the second account must both take place or neither take place.

Action Result
If the first statement is completed The money would vanish
If the second statement is completed The money would be counted twice
