When installing on a Linux system, use the Korn shell (/bin/ksh) before running the installation procedure for Teradata Tools and Utilities. This ensures correct execution of the installation script.

Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) is used to communicate with the Teradata Database.

The client must be connected to one of the following:
  • The same Ethernet LAN as the Teradata Database
  • An Ethernet LAN that permits the client to communicate with the Teradata Database through one or more routers
  • A node that is attached to the Teradata Database through Ynet or BYNET. No separate network controller board or network software is required; the client provides its own.

The appropriate Ethernet hardware and software supporting a TCP/IP-based network must be installed on every Teradata Database with which the client communicates.
