You can scale a Teradata Database up or down by changing the instance types in the system. Be sure to scale only supported instance types. See

Scaling unsupported instance types may impact database performance. Data loss will occur if you scale up or scale down local storage instance types.
Scaling an instance up or down has no effect on Teradata software that is running on an instance, nor does it affect the amount of storage of the deployed instance.Methods for Scaling Up or Down
- Scale up or down manually by stopping all of the instances and restarting the entire system.
- Migrate placement groups so that new instances are created automatically without having to stop and restart the entire system.
