This is an example that sends a trap to an SNMP management server when a database alerts with a warning severity. In this example, you configure and send an SNMP trap as an alert action. The SNMP management package is running on a system named prodMgr1.
  1. In SMWeb, configure the system to forward alerts to the Viewpoint server.
    1. On the Server Management dashboard, select Settings > Viewpoint .
    2. If the correct IP address of the Viewpoint server is not listed under Server IP Address, enter the address, select Active, and click Save.
    3. Enter the CAM credentials, or use the default.
      Most systems can accept the default.
    4. Test the connection.
  2. In the Alert Setup portlet, create an SNMP configuration.
    1. From the Setup Options list, select Delivery Settings.
    2. From the Delivery Types list, select SNMP.
    3. Next to SNMP, click .
    4. In the Configuration Name box, type snmpConfig.
    5. Click the Enable SNMP check box.
    6. In the Destination box, type prodMgr1 as the hostname for the trap.
    7. In the Community box, leave the default value as public.
    8. Select the Alert message check box.
    9. Select the Alert Conditions check box.
    10. Click Apply.
  3. In the Alert Setup portlet, create an Action Set.
    1. From the Setup Options list, select Alert Presets.
    2. From the Preset Options list, select Core Hours.
    3. From the Days lists, select Monday and Sunday.
    4. For Time, select 24 hours.
    5. From the Preset Options list, select Action Sets.
    6. Select "" next to Action Sets.
    7. In the Action Set Name box, type snmpTrap.
    8. From the Times check boxes, select Core, Evening, and Weekend.
    9. Under Actions, make sure the Include in Alert Viewer check box is selected.
      This option is selected by default so you can view alerts for this action set in the Alert Viewer portlet.
    10. From the Actions list, select the SNMP check box.
    11. From the list of SNMP configurations, select snmpConfig.
    12. Click Apply.
  4. In the Server Management portlet, define the alert rules for Gamma1.
    1. From the Configure list, click Alerts.
    2. From the SiteIDs list, click .
    3. In the SiteID box, type Gamma1.
    4. Click Apply.
    5. Under SiteIDs, click Gamma1.
    6. In the Alerts list, click .
    7. In the Alert Name box, type SM_snmpTrap.
    8. Click the Enabled check box.
    9. From the Match list, accept the default as All.
    10. From the Alert Rules list, select Subsystem > is equal to > Database.
    11. To the right of the Alert Rules list, click .
    12. From the list, select Severity > is greater than or equal to > Degraded.
    13. Check the Notify again if alert updates check box.
    14. From the Alert Action list, select snmpTrap
    15. Accept the default in Do not run twice in...minutes.
    16. In the Message box, type the following properties:
      SiteID : ${siteid}
      Synopsis : ${description}
      MessageID : ${messageid}
      Severity : ${severity}
      Include alert properties in the Message box by enclosing the property name in curly brackets ({}) and preceding the expression with a dollar sign ($) as shown. For more information, see Adding and Copying Alerts.
    17. Click Apply.
  5. In the Alert Viewer portlet, review triggered actions.
