  • SWS -- The SWS is the service entry for the system.
  • Viewpoint -- The Viewpoint VM manages only a single Teradata system.

An Intel R1208 VMS is available in Small System VMS, System VMS, and Cabinet VMS configurations. A 2750 cabinet can contain a Small System VMS, System VMS, or Cabinet VMS. A BYNET V5 cabinet can contain a System or Cabinet VMS.

Small System VMSs support systems up to a maximum of 16 nodes and servers, and cannot be used in multi-system/multi-site ID configurations. Each Small System VMS consists of:

  • CMIC, SWS, and Viewpoint VMs

Server Management Web (SMWeb) Services
Server management functions run on the CMIC VM (on a VMS). The CMIC hosts the SMWeb Services Home page and provides applications and services for server management on an MPP system:
  • Server Management Client: Monitor status, display events, and perform commands from a single operational view of the system.
  • Command Line Interface: Download remote command line interface utilities
  • Save and Restore: Download, upload, and view configuration files
  • Users and Groups: Manage user and group security levels
  • Network, Devices, and CMICs: Configure the server management network and device management
  • TVI Connection: Configure settings for TVI data communications to Teradata via the Service Workstation

For use by customer on-site staff members and Teradata Customer Support.

SMWeb 10.05 and Teradata ServiceConnect are required for 2750 systems.

For information about using SMWeb Services, see the Teradata Server Management Web Services User Guide, B035-5350, or the online help on the SMWeb Services home page.

Multi-System/Multi-Site ID Support

The server management network (domain) can support up to three systems (or site IDs). This functionality enables the inclusion of two test/development systems in the 2750 base cabinet, resulting in a system configuration that consists of one full production 2750 system and two single node-dual drive enclosure test/development systems.

Enterprise Service Workstation (SWS)
Teradata Dell R720 workstation dedicated to system servicing and maintenance. Systems with an R1208 System VMS and more than 128 disk arrays, require dedicated Enterprise SWS hardware (rather than a VMS with an SWS virtual machine). For systems that use dedicated Enterprise SWS hardware, the SWS hardware resides in a Platform Framework Cabinet (PFC).
  • Adapter connection to server management network
  • SLES 11 operating system
The level of service depends on the service agreement between Teradata and the customer.
Enterprise Viewpoint Server

Teradata Dell R720 server that hosts the Viewpoint portal that contains portlets for customer management of the Teradata Database. Systems that support multi-site IDs or systems that have more than 128 nodes require dedicated Enterprise Viewpoint hardware (rather than a VMS with a Viewpoint virtual machine). For systems that use dedicated Enterprise Viewpoint hardware, the Viewpoint hardware can reside in a PFC.

  • Adapter connection to server management network
  • SLES 10 SP3 operating system
Keyboard, Video, Mouse (KVM) Console

The KVM resides in the 2750 base processing/storage cabinet and has VGA and USB connections to the VMS.

Cable Management

Processing/storage cabinets are pre-wired for two cliques, with cable harness provided for server management Ethernet per node.

BYNET V5 cabinets do not have cable harnesses.

Platform Framework Cabinets have cable harnesses for power and server management.

Openings in cabinet sides near the rear of the rack accommodate inter-rack cabling.

AC Power Subsystem
2750 processing/storage cabinets:
  • Four zero U PDUs, two on each inside rear panel of the cabinet.
  • Two or four AC feeder boxes on each inside rear panel of the cabinet. Available AC feeder box types:
    • AC feeder box type with a plug rated at 30A for North America and rated at 32A for Europe. The plug is used for both single-phase (220-240V line-to-neutral) or phase-to-phase (208V) connections. Each cabinet has four AC feeder boxes; each AC feeder box has one power cord for a total of four power cords per cabinet. This power type does not support all possible cabinet configurations.
    • Three-phase Delta AC feeder box with a plug rated at 30A. Each cabinet has four AC feeder boxes; each AC feeder box has one power cord for a total of four power cords per cabinet.
    • Three-phase Delta AC feeder box with a plug rated at 60A. Each cabinet has two AC feeder boxes; each AC feeder box has one power cord for a total of two power cords per cabinet.
    • Three-phase Wye 230V L-N AC feeder box with a plug rated at 30A for North America or 32A for Europe. Each cabinet has two AC feeder boxes; each AC feeder box has one power cord for a total of two power cords per cabinet.
BYNET V5 cabinet:
  • Two AC boxes of the same type per cabinet.
  • For cabinets with the 108-port, 162-port or 324-port switch, the AC box type is a single-cord AC box with a plug rated at 30A for North America and rated at 32A for Europe. The plug is used for both single-phase (220-240V line-to-neutral) or phase-to-phase (208V) connections. Each cabinet has two AC boxes; each AC box has one power cord for a total of two power cords per cabinet.

The PFC cabinet has two AC boxes of the same type per cabinet. For information about the PFC cabinet power subsystem, see the Teradata Platform Framework Cabinet Model 12 Product and Site Preparation Guide, B035-5388.

Hardware Compression

The 2750 platform uses hardware performance acceleration. The platform uses compression engine adapters in conjunction with the Teradata Database block-level compression feature. The compression engines implement block-level compression without using the costly CPU overhead of software block-level compression. Compression design provides performance enhancement, for most workloads, and increased user capacity. Default block-level compression settings are pre-configured and optimized for 2750 system-level performance.

Coresidence
The 2750 platform can coreside with the 2700 platform. When creating a coresident system, follow these guidelines:
  • Ensure that the same operating system and service pack level is installed on all processing nodes.
  • Ensure that the same Teradata Database version (including all the latest certified software/firmware levels) is installed on all processing nodes.
  • Apply the system configuration settings from the older platform to the newer platform.
  • For coresidence with 2700 platforms using BYNET V5, a BYNET V5 interface adapter must be installed in each processing node and channel server in the 2750 and 2700.
If the 2700 is using BYNET-over-Ethernet, it must be converted to BYNET V5 for coresidence.
Full Disk Encryption

The 2750 platform supports full disk encryption for all database node disks, storage disks, and server disks in all system cabinets.

Some Teradata Managed Servers may have database data on the TMS drives (temporarily or permanently). Full disk encryption is offered for these Teradata Managed Servers with self-encrypting drives (Dell R720 and later).
Dell R710 servers do not use self-encrypting drives (SED).
