Each user can configure an alias for one or more components. You can type it or have it automatically generated. When set up, an alias is stored on the client machine of the user who configured the alias.
  1. From the Tree View, select one or more components.
Important: If you plan to automatically generate the user-defined aliases, the selected components need to be of the same type; for example, all collectives, all CMICs, or all nodes.
  2. Select Configuration > Set Aliases. The Set Aliases dialog box appears.
  3. Do one of the following:
    • To manually type a user-defined alias, complete step 4.
    • To automatically generate a user-defined alias, complete step 5.
  4. Do the following to manually type a user-defined alias:
    1. In the User Defined Alias column, click the line where you want to define an alias.
    2. Type the alias.
    3. Repeat for each applicable component.
    4. Click Ok.
  5. Do the following to automatically generate a user-defined alias:
    1. Select to highlight one or more components.
    2. Click Autogenerate. The Generate Aliases dialog box appears.
    3. Edit or clear the Template box. The template consists of text, numbers, dots, dashes, and special characters.
    4. If you are familiar with the format, you can type the content manually. Example to create a template to generate an alias in the following format: SMP x--yyy--zzz where there is no SystemID, where x represents the default alias CollectiveID, where yyy represents a CabinetID with a minimum width of 3, and where zzz represents the ID of the node chassis, with a minimum width of 3, in the Template box, type SMP{CollectiveID}--{CabinetID,3}--{ID,3}.
    5. If you want to specify a macro corresponding to a specific ID and the number of units in that macro, click Macro. The Select Macro dialog box appears. Example to create a system ID macro with a minimum width of 3 for system 1: Select SystemID. In the Minimum Width list, select 3. The result appears in the Preview area as 001. When you click Ok, {SystemID, 3} appears in the Template box.
    6. Click Ok. The autogenerated aliases appear under the User Defined Alias column in the Set Aliases dialog box.
    7. Click Ok.
