Beginning with the 14.10 releases of Teradata ARC and Teradata Database, support for object names has been extended with the Extended Object Name (EON) feature. EON provides support for 128-character, 512-byte object names. This allows each character to be a full multi-byte character of up to 4 bytes long, depending on character set. Users can now specify a full 128-character UNICODE name.

In Teradata ARC and Teradata Database 13.10 releases, support for object names was extended with the Extended Object Name Parcels (EONP) feature. EONP provided support for 30-character, 120-byte object names where each character could be a full multi-byte character of up to 4 bytes per character. With EONP, users can specify a full 30-character UNICODE name, where each character is 4-bytes long.

Prior to 13.10, Teradata ARC and Teradata Database only supported 30-character object names in a 30-byte field. Depending on the character set, this could result in a maximum object name that is less than 30 characters long. For example, if using UTF-8 (which supports up to 3 bytes per character), the maximum number of characters that can fit in the 30-byte object name field is 10 characters.
