The gross (crated) and net (uncrated) weight of a fully loaded 2850 cabinet is heavier than the maximum weight of previously released Teradata cabinets. Although not every cabinet will be at maximum weight, the gross and net weights of a 2850 cabinet must be considered when transporting and moving it. In addition, the potential for expanding a 2850 cabinet to its maximum weight must be considered when installing it at a data center.
  • Gross (crated) weight of a fully loaded 2850 cabinet: 1,170 kg (2579 lb)
  • Net (uncrated) weight of a fully loaded 2850 base cabinet: 988 kg (2,179 lb)
If you have less than the maximum (fully loaded) configuration, before you ship, move, or install a 2850 cabinet, calculate the gross (crated) and net (uncrated) weight of the cabinet:
  • The account team can use the tools provided in Service Bulletin 502 (SB502).
  • Contact Teradata CS-designated Regional Hardware Champions.
When moving a 2850 cabinet from one location to another, provide the following to the moving company:
  • The maximum gross weight of the cabinet if it is transported with a crate.
  • The maximum net weight of the cabinet if it is transported without a crate.

Moving trucks have a weight limit, and so do the lift gates. Note the following when shipping a 2850 cabinets:

  • The load carrying capacity of the truck must be greater than the total weight, gross or net, of all cabinets and other miscellaneous items in the shipment.
  • If the 2850 cabinet is transported with a crate, the load carrying capacity of the lift gate must be greater than the weight of the crated 2850 cabinet (its gross weight).
  • If the 2850 cabinet is transported without a crate, the load carrying capacity of the lift gate must be greater than the weight of the 2850 cabinet (its net weight).
Use of improperly equipped moving trucks and associated lift gates can result in damage to equipment or in personal injuries.
