The Teradata Data Warehouse Appliance 2850 platform is made up of one or more processing/storage cabinets, depending on the system configuration:
  • Each cabinet contains:
    • One or more 4-node cliques, one or more 2-node cliques, or a combination of 4-node and 2-node cliques. The number of nodes and cliques in a cabinet may be limited by the type of power used (A, B, C, or D).
    • Two server management switches
    • BYNET switches, if required by the configuration
    • One virtualized management server:
      • Cabinet 1 contains the System VMS
      • Additional cabinets contain a Cabinet VMS
    • Power hardware
  • In addition, the first cabinet (Cabinet 1 or the base cabinet) contains:
    • One KVM console chassis
    • Two BYNET V5 InfiniBand 36-port switches
  • The first cabinet may also contain one or more of the following, in any combination:
    • Channel servers
    • Network Connectivity Servers (NCSs)
    • SAS HPA worker nodes
    • Aster 5 nodes (for more information about the Aster 5 platform, see the Teradata AsterĀ® Big Data Analytics Appliance 5 Platform Product and Site Preparation Guide, B035-6038)
    • Hadoop 5 nodes (for more information about the Hadoop 5 platform, see the Teradata Appliance for Hadoop 5 Platform Product and Site Preparation Guide, B035-6030)
    • Hadoop 6 nodes (for more information about the Hadoop 6 platform, see the Teradata Appliance for Hadoop 6 Platform Product and Site Preparation Guide, B035-6061)
    • Teradata Managed Servers (TMSs)
    • Teradata Managed Storage Servers (TMSSs)
    • BAR hardware components, field installed by third-party representatives:
      • One or two Scalar i80 BAR tape libraries with or without a key manager server.
Only one TMS BAR is permitted for the Scalar i80 BAR tape library configuration options.
      • One Data Domain 4200 with one ES30 expansion shelves and up to three optional ES30 expansion shelves.
Only one TMS BAR is permitted for the Data Domain 4200 and ES30 options.
In a multi-system configuration, the first processing/storage cabinet may optionally contain the following:
    • A second or third 2800 or 2850 system (either a 4-node or 2-node single-clique system) in addition to the primary system.
    • One or two 680 systems (with one processing node and one disk array each).
    • A combination of one additional 2800 or 2850 system (either a 4-node or 2-node single-clique system) and one or two 680 systems.

The number and location of optional components in a cabinet depends on the type of power used (A, B, C, or D), the location of 4-node and 2-node cliques, and the location of other optional components. Refer to the Cabinet Builds section of this guide for limitations.

  • Platform Framework Cabinet (PFC)

A Platform Framework Cabinet can be used to hold additional components if there is insufficient space in the system cabinet, or if components, such as an ECS, need to be located in a different location. The PFC can also be used to support system configurations that require a dedicated Service Workstation (SWS) server and/or Viewpoint server.

For more information, see the Teradata Platform Framework Cabinet Model 12 Product and Site Preparation Guide, B035-5388 for the PFC cabinet delivered with your system. Teradata product and site preparation documentation can be accessed at: http://www.info.teradata.com.
