The Teradata Data Warehouse Appliance 2800 platform is made up of a combination of cabinet types, depending on the system configuration:
  • One base processing/storage cabinet
    Each base processing/storage cabinet contains:
    • One or more 4+0 cliques, one or more 2+0 cliques, or a combination of 4+0 and 2+0 cliques. The number of cliques in a base cabinet depends on the type of power used (A, B, C, or D).
    • One system virtualized management server (VMS)
    • One keyboard/video/mouse (KVM) chassis
    • Two BYNET V5 InfiniBand 36-port switches
Systems requiring more than 36 InfiniBand connections use BYNET V5 InfiniBand cabinets instead of 36-port switches.
    • Two server management switches
    • Power hardware
Base processing/storage cabinets may optionally contain one or more of the following, in any combination:
    • Channel servers
    • Extended Channel Solution (ECS) servers
    • Network Connectivity Servers (NCSs)
    • SAS HPA worker nodes
    • Teradata Managed Servers (TMSs)
    • Teradata Managed Storage Servers (TMSSs).
A base processing/storage cabinet may optionally contain the following:
    • A second 2800 system (one 4+0 clique or one 2+0 clique)
    • One or two 680 systems
For more information about the 680 platform, see the Teradata Data Mart Appliance 680 Platform Product Guide, B035-6018.
    • One or two Scalar i80 BAR tape libraries with or without a key manager server.
Only one TMS BAR is permitted for the Scalar i80 BAR tape library configuration options.
    • One Data Domain 4200 with one ES30 expansion shelf and up to three optional ES30 expansion shelves.
Only one TMS BAR is permitted for the Data Domain 4200 and ES30 options.
The number and location of optional components in a base cabinet depends on the type of power used (A, B, C, or D), the location of 4+0 and 2+0 cliques, and the location of other optional components.
  • Expansion processing/storage cabinets
    Each expansion processing/storage cabinet contains:
    • One or more 4+0 cliques, one or more 2+0 cliques, or a combination of 4+0 and 2+0 cliques. The number of cliques in an expansion cabinet depends on the type of power used (A, B, C, or D).
    • One cabinet virtualized management server (VMS)
    • Two server management switches
    • Power hardware
  • BYNET V5 cabinet (BYNET V5 interconnect)
Each BYNET V5 cabinet contains one or two InfiniBand switches, depending on the configuration.
    • A 108-port switch cabinet supports scalability from one to a maximum of 108 nodes. The cabinet contains two 108-port switches for redundancy. The cabinet can also contain an optional System VMS and KVM and up to two TMS servers.
    • A 324-port switch cabinet supports scalability from one to a maximum of 324 nodes. 324-port switch cabinets are paired for redundancy.
System configurations larger than 324 nodes (to a maximum of 1,024 nodes) are accommodated by special order.

AC boxes in the cabinet provide power. Ethernet switches provide server management functionality.

  • Platform Framework Cabinet (PFC)
The PFC can contain any combination of the following:
    • System VMS and KVM
    • Cabinet VMS
    • Channel servers
    • Extended Channel Solution (ECS) servers
    • Network Connectivity Servers (NCSs)
    • SAS HPA worker nodes
    • Teradata Managed Servers (TMSs)
    • Teradata Managed Storage Servers (TMSSs)
    • Switches

The PFC can also be used to support system configurations that require a dedicated Service Workstation (SWS) server and/or Viewpoint server.

AC boxes in the cabinet provide power. Ethernet switches provide server management functionality.

This guide refers generally to the Platform Framework Cabinets that may be part of your system.
