During a process called discovery, SMClient discovers each CMIC. Each CMIC discovers the configuration and status information of the cabinets and chassis in its collective and sends the information to SMClient. Discovery also occurs when the system configuration changes, such as when a new cabinet or chassis is added.

After the discovery process completes, the information displays in SMClient. SMClient can then be used to configure, monitor, administer, service, and maintain the system. Events are reported and displayed in SMClient. These events can include device and operating system errors, configuration and operational state changes, and system alert summaries. Events that are serious enough to affect the operation of the system generate alerts. Available on the Alerts tab, an alert is a report of a condition that requires attention to protect system availability.

Network Communication

All communication between the CMICs and the system takes place through two dedicated fully redundant Server Management networks: the primary and secondary Ethernet networks.

User Directories

By default, SMClient data is saved in username/sm_client/host
