As soon as possible...
Work closely with your Teradata site team to make sure all onboarding tasks are addressed.
Design your data center so the Vantage system will be in a single physical location.
Be familiar with the supported software and prepared to ensure compliance. Leave enough time to update, if necessary.
Confirm the site ID is created and working.
Floor Layout Guidelines
Allocate floor space.
Calculate front and rear clearances. See Cabinet Footprint and Clearances.
If you want to use a containment environment or non-raised floor environment for the data center, you must consult with Teradata. A detailed site survey and analysis is required to determine the proper equipment layouts to meet the stated environmental requirements for the system.
Calculate the floor tile capacity and determine the weight limit.
Verify that the floor loading is adequate for the system.
Plan for future expansion now. Future systems generally require more space (ft2/cabinet) than the current one.
Unloading, Uncrating, and Entry Route
Review the policy on moving and relocating cabinets.
Verify that dock/delivery access is adequate.
Determine whether a liftgate truck or raised dock is required to unload the system.
Determine whether there is open access to the system floor (doors/ramps/elevators/appropriate floor covering).
Confirm the access path to the system floor is unobstructed, large enough, and strong enough (floor loading) to accommodate system cabinets.
Determine whether the ramps are steeper than 10°.
Determine whether a pallet jack is available for moving the crates.
Determine if there are arrangements for crate disposal or return. Usually, the carrier takes the crates and packing.
Tile Cutouts for Cables
Confirm the floor has adequate tiles with appropriate cutouts large enough to accommodate cables.
Verify that cutout edges are protected to prevent cable damage.
Cutout size must be minimal. Brush-sealed tile cutouts are strongly recommended to prevent cold air from coming through.
Confirm your site meets the environmental requirements.
The floor plans must show cabling scheme and cable routing.
Network cabling is at the top of the cabinets; power cabling is at the bottom.
Mainframe connectivity is to the Ecosystem cabinet.
Determine where the cables will be laid.
If you use cable trays, confirm that Teradata can use the same trays. Teradata does not provide cable trays.
Determine whether certain areas or other cables need to be avoided.
Make sure the sub-floor area is clean and free from obstructions.
Calculate total power, in watts or kilowatts, for the system.
Calculate the total data center power capacity.
Determine a plan for adequate power capacity and power redundancy.
Confirm the data center has appropriate type and number of receptacles for all the system cabinets. Show this on the floor plan.
Verify multiple power feeds for redundancy.
Determine whether the data center has UPS units or street power.
Confirm that the AC boxes can be connected to different power sources, and the power sources can be connected to different PDU panels. The floor plan must show how dual power is connected to each cabinet.
Confirm that a broadband connection in and out of the building is available for Teradata use.
Confirm there is a CLAN drop for every Analytics Node.
Provide your LAN IP addresses, subnet mask, and aliases to Teradata for use at installation. Include router information. This information is also needed for the private LAN for the BAR solution, if applicable.
ServiceConnect is required for remote support and maintenance. Verify the following:
Host Channel Adapter (HCA) Connectivity [Optional]
Determine if a mainframe connection is required.
Consult with your account team to determine where to connect to the Teradata system, cable lengths, and how many connections. Teradata does not supply HCA cables.
Determine/provide host channel connection information, if applicable. Plan to define the IOGEN and MVS devices.
Backup and Restore (BAR) [Optional]
|If the installation will include a Teradata BAR solution, determine the following:
Spare Parts [Optional]
Determine if additional site spares have been ordered. Consult with the Teradata team. Teradata provides a spare parts cabinet.
