Continue a BTEQ command from one line to the next by including a dash character (-) as the last character of the line to be continued (space characters can follow the dash character). For example, the following command generates a single heading:

.SET HEADING 'This is an -
example of a continued -
heading'
This is an example of a continued heading

The continuation character cannot be used in conjunction with an ANSI-style comment statement.

The continuation character can also be used to continue a quoted string embedded in an SQL request. space characters can follow the continuation character.

For example, the following SQL request:

SELECT 'aaa -
bbb';

would be treated by BTEQ as:

SELECT 'aaa bbb';
