Run ACT by typing a command like:
act -d <db name> -h <hostname> -U <username> [-w <password>] [argument flags]
If you do not provide the hostname using -h, ACT defaults to the localhost. For details on the command line options, see Startup Parameters for ACT
-
Provide your database password by:
- adding the optional –w < password > to the ACT login string, or
- omitting the -w argument and providing your database password at the prompt.
- Choose a database by adding -d <database name> to the ACT login string. If -d is not used, ACT places you in the system database (with the default name “beehive”).
-
You will see a welcome message, followed by the database prompt, which shows the database name, followed by “=>”. For example:
Welcome to act 6.21, the Aster Database Terminal. beehive=>
