This topic contains important information about reserved words in Teradata.

  • Each new release of the Teradata Database adds entries to the reserved words list.
  • Words are never dropped from the list.
  • The reserved words list contains all previous and currently added words and is part of the Reserved Words script.
  • The complete list of reserved words is published in SQL Fundamentals, B035-1141, and includes non-reserved and future reserved words.
  • A short list of the new reserved words for each database release is in the Release Summary. This list does not show the non-reserved and future reserved words.
  • The check_reserved_words_tpt.bteq script checks for reserved words used by the TPT utility. Output is contained in the report file named reservedwords_tpt.rpt. If the customer uses the TPT utility, the output of that script should also be checked.
