By default, all columns in a BTEQ report are separated by two space characters. Use the BTEQ SEPARATOR command to specify a different number of space characters or another character string to separate columns.

Example – SEPARATOR

Replace the PAGEBREAK command in the previous example with a SEPARATOR command specifying a single vertical bar as the separator string, for example:

.SET SEPARATOR “|”
.SET SUPPRESS ON 1
select deptno, name from employee
where deptno in (100, 300)
order by deptno;

This example produces the following report:

DeptNo|Name
------|-----------
   100|Chin M
      |Greene W
      |Moffit H
      |Peterson J
   300|Russell S
      |Phan A
      |Leidner P
