Within the GM model, a special “average mode” option is provided, using the minimum generalized distance rule. With this option, a single covariance matrix is used for all clusters, rather than using an individual covariance matrix for each cluster. A weighted average of the covariance matrices is constructed for use in the succeeding iteration.
