The SMClient Tree View displays system components in a hierarchical directory structure as shown below. The Tree View begins at the system level and branches downward to the subcomponent level. When you start SMClient, it builds the Tree View.

The cabinets, chassis, chassis components, and VMs displayed in the Tree View depend on your system configuration.

If you collapse a group in the Tree View, the worst operational state indicator (icon) for that component rolls up to the parent component.


If you expand the Tree View again, that same state indicator (icon) appears next to the applicable child component.


System components are described below.
System Component Description
System A system is one or more collectives, each containing one or more cabinets of managed chassis on the Server Management network, managed by multiple CMICs and represented by a single server active designed SOV CMIC. The system is the highest level of organization in the Tree View.
Collective A collective is one or more cabinets having or sharing at least one CMIC.
Cabinet The cabinets that appear in the Tree View depend on your system configuration.
Chassis Each cabinet contains a set of chassis related to the cabinet's function in the system. These chassis can be physical or virtual chassis or systems, that is, system plug-ins.
The VMs reside on the VMS, but do not show as part of the VMS on the Tree View. To determine which VMS contains which VMs, review the VMS properties on the VM.
Components and Subcomponents Chassis may contain components that can further be refined into subcomponents.
Unless noted in this guide, CMICs and VM CMICs, as well as nodes and VM nodes, are considered to be functionally the same.
